Short breaks provide opportunities for disabled children to have enjoyable experiences which help them become more independent and form friendships outside their family. At the same time their families get a regular break from the demands of caring for a disabled child.

Short breaks can occur in the child's home, the home of an approved carer, or a residential or community setting and include day, evening, overnight and weekend activities, depending on the type of provisiino and the needs of the child and their family. We support these services by, providing an information service, carrying out research into what works, awareness raising and carer recruitment, campaigning, lobbying and working with government for better services, producing good practice resources.
