| What We Do: |
Founded in 1995, RYA Sailability has recently been incorporated into the Royal Yachting Association absorbing core administrative costs. Currently there are more than 20,000 disabled sailors in the UK helped by around 12,000 volunteers at over 150 recognised RYA Sailability sites. Through the charities work, sailors with disabilities experience the same exhilaration, enjoyment and confidence felt by able-bodied sailors - along with all the great social activities and competition opportunities. What we do: ■ Give grants to adapt facilities at club houses; ■ Give grants to RYA Sailability groups to buy equipment and specially adapted boats; ■ Train volunteers and instructors to help disabled sailors get out on the water; ■ Promote powerboating for disabled people; ■ Help groups to raise money locally; ■ Fund 15 volunteer regional coordinator; ■ Support paralympic potential and help with funding for racing both nationally and abroad; ■ Encourage and support clubs to share facilities; ■ Help to set up new RYA Sailability groups. |
