| We all want our children to be able to lead as independent life as possible. This might mean having special equipment or even having to make alterations to your home, or just thinking of creative alternative to everyday problems such as tying shoelaces. This section of the website tells you how you can get advice about equipment, see it and try it out, and how to go about making alterations to your house.
The pages ‘Tried and tested’ may prove to be the most useful as this is where you can share your ideas with other parents about solutions that help solve everyday problems. You can get help with practical problems like mobility from an occupational therapist, who can carry out an assessment on what your child needs and give you advice, information and practical suggestions for equipment that would be useful. You can ask your family doctor, or social worker if you have one, to make an initial referral. For information on where to find an occupational therapist (OT) in Hampshire, contact OT Direct at the following number : 0845 600 4555 or go to the link http://www3.hants.gov.uk/adult-services/aboutas/structure/ot.htm to find out more about the role of an OT. Contact a Family do a good guide to Aids, equipment and adaptions that includes information on second hand equipment, financial help and where to go for specific pieces of equipment. To download the publication, go to : http://www.cafamily.org.uk/pdfs/AidsUpdate.pdf or ring 0808 808 3555 for a hard copy. | |
